Here is the process to getting started with the SingleKey Pre-Screening Form.

  1. Create an Account
  2. Customize your Pre-Screening form
  3. Perform a Pre-Screen

Step 1: Create an account.

The Pre-Screening feature is only available to users after they create their account. Creating an account is simple and free. Click “Sign In” in the top right corner and follow the steps to creating your account.

After you create your SingleKey account, you can pre-screen your first applicant, customise the application form and view all completed forms from one place.

Step 2: Customise your Pre-Screening form.

The SingleKey pre-screening form is customisable! Landlord can easily add and remove questions from the question bank.

To customise your form, click “Preview Form”.

Click the “Customize” button located at the top of the page.

Then, select the questions you would like to appear on the form and what questions you would like to remove by flipping the light blue switch. The only questions that are mandatory on all pre-screening forms are the “legal name, email and phone number” fields.

Once you customise your form, you can select whether you would like your (the landlord’s) name to appear on the form by flipping the switch.

Once you’ve completed the form, save the form. The form is now ready to be sent to prospective renters.

Step 3: Perform a Pre-Screen

Think of the pre-screening feature as a way of conducting preliminary interviews.

To pre-screen a tenant, click either the “Pre-screen tenant” or “Pre-screen tenants with unit info”. Note that the second option will allow you to invite an applicant to apply for a specific unit, whereas the first option pre-screens a tenant without including the specific rental address on the application form.

There are two ways to share the form with your potential tenant:

  1. Send the application form directly to your tenant’s email. The applicant will fill out the form and when they submit the application, the results will appear in landlords SingleKey account. To do this, just enter the tenant’s email in the “Tenant Email” field and click “Send Pre-screen Form”.
  2. Copy and share a link to the pre-screening form. This is useful for when landlords post ads looking for renters on platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji. Simply copy the pre-screen link and either send it to your prospective applicant or paste it in your rental advertisement. Whenever an interested party clicks on the link, they will be directed to the form. When they fill out and submit the form with their answers, the completed form will appear in your account.

Once the application form is filled out by the prospective tenant, the completed form will be shared to your SingleKey account where you can review the information.

Step 4: Order a Credit Report

If you are happy with the applicant’s pre-screening information and would like to order a credit report, you can upgrade directly from the pre-screening page. Click “Order Report” to upgrade your pre-screening application to a credit and background check.
